The short version
UK law requires adult platforms to verify that every user is over 18. We use a licensed third-party verification provider. They confirm your age. They tell us yes or no. We never see, store, or hold copies of your documents.
What we get back
A single bit of information: this person is over 18. That's it. No name, no document copy, no expiry date. Yes or no, nothing else.
How it works
- You sign up to thatnewone with email and password.
- Before you can interact with anyone, you're prompted to verify.
- You're taken to our verification provider's secure page (you'll see their branding clearly).
- You choose how to verify: photo ID, credit card, mobile network confirmation, or open banking. You pick what you're comfortable with.
- The provider confirms or denies. They tell us the result. We mark your account verified.
- You're back in the app. Your verification flag stays as long as your account does.
Why we don't see your ID
The whole reason for using a separate provider is so we don't hold sensitive documents. Holding ID copies on a dating site is a recipe for disaster: it's a magnet for hackers, it's a privacy time bomb, and it's not necessary. The Online Safety Act allows for verification via licensed providers exactly so platforms like us don't need to keep the underlying documents.
Who provides verification
Our current provider is shown in the verification flow itself, alongside their compliance credentials. They are licensed by the UK Information Commissioner's Office and operate under UK GDPR. We may change providers in future as the market evolves; if we do, we'll tell you in advance.
What if I don't want to verify?
You can sign up and look around without verifying, but you can't message anyone, view explicit tier content, or be visible in the main browse. Verification is the one thing we will not bend on, because it's the foundation that lets everyone else here trust the room.
What if I've already verified somewhere else?
You'll still need to verify with us. We can't accept verifications carried out for other platforms because we have no way to know whose verification it really is. Verifying once with us takes a couple of minutes.
How long does it take?
Most verifications complete in under a minute. Photo ID can take longer if the document needs human review. You'll be told either way and can come back to it.
